We love MOMS!!! While any day is a good day to show the moms in your life how much you appreciate them, Mother’s Day, which is Sunday, May 13th this year, (hint, hint!) is a great time to pull out all the stops! Now, to help you give your mom, wife, grandmother, or mom friends the celebration they deserve, we’re sharing our best Mother’s Day ideas, ranging from gifts for mom to where to go to mark the occasion!
Brunch Among the Flowers at Lauritzen Gardens
The annual brunch at Lauritzen Gardens (100 Bancroft Street, Omaha) is one of the best Omaha Mother’s Day events considering it combines food, family time and flowers. The botanical center will hold the festive meal on Mother’s Day, Sunday, May 13th at the visitor and education center. Reservations can be made for between 10am to 2pm. Hap Abraham Catering will be serving delicious brunch favorites. Visit the Lauritzen Gardens website to check out the menu and make reservations.
Send Her for a Spa Day
You can’t go wrong with a spa day when it comes to presents for Mother’s Day. Moms are busy and what better way to unwind than with some pampering? Yes, please! Two of our favorite Papillion, NE spas are Revive Day Spa (701 Pinnacle Drive, Suite #107) and Bloom Salon (835 Tara Plaza). Revive is excellent for the full-on spa experience and you can spring for a treatment or two or send mom for the entire day. Their menu includes massages, facials and organic skin care, wraps and scrubs, spa pedicures and more.
Bloom Salon does amazing hair so you could gift mom a fresh cut and highlights followed by a spa treatment like their 60-minute custom facial. Take Five Massage (1103 Galvin Road S, Suite K) and Canvas Salon & Day Spa (11513 South 42nd Street, Suite 200) in Bellevue are other great options. In addition to a range of massages, Take Five has spa offerings like facials, manicure and pedicures. Canvas Salon & Day Spa has talented stylists to give mom her dream hair and facials, skincare and massages to boot.
Get Artistic at Waffles and Watercolors
Make mom feel special and learn something new at Waffles and Watercolors (Bench, 1441 North 11th Street, Omaha), which is probably the most creative of these Mother’s Day ideas. The event will be held at Bench, a co-working space in Omaha for artisans and builders, on Mother’s Day (Sunday, May 13) from 10am to 1pm.
Artists Julia Mason and Vicki Mason, who are also mother and daughter, will lead the painting workshop. You’ll learn watercolor techniques and do some still-life drawing exercises, while enjoying a vegan brunch catered by Amateur Coffee. You and your mom will each create an 8×10 still-life painting and two painted greeting cards. Purchase tickets for a unique way to spend Mother’s Day in Omaha. The workshop is geared towards beginners ages five and up, though all skill levels are welcome.
Give Her Flowers
A bouquet tops the list of classic Mother’s Day ideas and there’s no shortage of florists in Papillion, Ralston, Bellevue and the surrounding area. Try Bellevue Florist or Capehart Floral, both in Bellevue, Papillion Hy-vee Floral (it’s where we get flowers for our office anniversary and they always do a great job!) and Papillion Flower Patch or A Flower Basket in Ralston.
Or, for a hands-on approach that involves spending quality time in the sunshine (hopefully), stop by Canoyer Garden Center (11240 S. 66th Street, Papillion) for supplies and surprise mom with her favorite flowers. Then, you can plant them in the garden together.
Make Her Breakfast in Bed
Breakfast in bed is always one of the ideal Mother’s day presents because she gets to relax and everything tastes better when it’s made with love, so even if your culinary skills aren’t top-notch, you can still whip up a delicious breakfast. We’d suggest swinging by our all-time favorite Gretna, NE coffee shop, The Beanery, and getting some coffee or hot cocoa to go to accompany your breakfast feast (your welcome, mom!). Try one of these Mother’s Day breakfast in bed recipes.

Have a Picnic
If you’re on the lookout for Papillion Mother’s Day activities, consider heading to one of our many parks for a picnic. Pack a comfy blanket and a basket filled with goodies and soak up the spring weather. Keep the Mother’s Day menu simple with fresh fruits and veggies, tasty sandwiches and a sweet treat. If it happens to rain, you can always spread out your blanket on the living room floor and eat indoors.
Host a Mother’s Day Party
Still not sure what to do for Mother’s Day? Throw a party in honor of the mom in your life. Depending on her style, it could be a tea party, a fancy dinner party, brunch or a barbecue. Break out some decorations and have guests each bring a dish. Obviously, kids and dads are in charge of the setup and cleanup, while mom kicks back and socializes.
Make a DIY Mother’s Day Gift
Handmade presents can be a lot more meaningful than store bought ones and you don’t have to be Picasso to make something mom will love. From DIY bath bombs to sentimental photo holders, Country Living has a huge list of DIY Mother’s Day gift ideas to suit any woman.
Create a Scavenger Hunt
Blogger Carissa Miss wrote about her Mother’s Day scavenger hunt and we have to say it’s one of the best Mother’s Day activity ideas we’ve heard. It’s fun, whimsical and you can even get little kids involved in the process. First, buy or make several meaningful, little presents for mom.
They don’t have to be expensive (here’s a guide to affordable Mother’s day gift ideas or go with things like her favorite candy, an item that reflects an inside family joke, vouchers for chores, handmade crafts, etc.). Then, inside various Mother’s Day cards, write down clues to where she can find her gifts and let the hunt begin. Put your own spin on it or take inspiration from the original blog post.
Go to the Movies
If the weather isn’t great or low-key Mother’s Day ideas are more your speed, treating mom to a movie is always an option. The Marcus Theatres has its Family Classics Retro Series running in May and on Mother’s Day, the Twin Creek Cinema in Bellevue will be playing The Sound of Music at noon for just $5. After the flick, take mom out to a late lunch at an awesome Omaha-area restaurant. Happy Mother’s Day!
